The city of Casa Grande, AZ is one of the fastest growing cities in Pinal County. It is located about halfway between the Tuscon and Phoenix real estate markets along and to the west of the interstate10 corridor and just to the north of interstate 8.
Founded in 1879 and incorporated in 1915, Casa Grande derives its´ name, which translated means “Grande House” from the famous Hohokam Native American ruins 20 miles to the northeast near Coolidge, AZ.
The city itself encompasses approximately 70 square miles of land and has traditionally been a rural farming community until recently. With the tremendous growth of the greater Phoenix and Tucson area cities and the close proximity of vast amount of private, affordable land, it was only a matter of time before the demand for affordable housing reached Casa Grande.
The population of Casa Grande in 2000 was 25,224. The population estimates for 2005 were 32,470 indicating a growth of nearly 30% in just five years. There are currently 65 new home subdivisions being developed by over 32 different builders. New single family home building permits are in the range of 1,561 with 53 commercial structures permitted. There are over 143 different single family home plans starting at a base price of under $160,000. A check of the MLS reveals there are over 650 listings for single family home with some newer homes listed in the $135,000 price range. Casa Grande is transitioning from a small farming community to a major city with the construction of a regional size, open-air mall under construction at the northeast corner of I-10 and Florence Blvd. Many stores are now open; JC Penney´s, Kohl´s, Dillard´s, a 14 screen Harkin´s movie theater, Best Buy, Staples and Target. The 130 acre site will be in the continual process of construction for the next few years. The Outlet Stores of Casa Grande are conveniently located along the west side of Interstate 10, between Tucson and Phoenix, and just a few miles north of the I-10 / I-8 Interchange, at Exit 198. Here you will find name brands like Gap, Samsonite, Liz Claiborne, Van Heusen Levi´s and many more.
